A cylinder with a rounded cap, set in a circular base in which it tilts freely: the lamp stands up, lies down, and changes its light according to the angle it is given. The body is pierced with a column of small holes that let the light through in points, while the upper part diffuses it broadly.
Designed in 1968 by Cesare Casati and Emanuele Ponzio under the name Studio D.A., the Pillola is one of the objects that brought moulded plastic into Italian furniture: a pill shape, series production, and the idea of being seen in a group rather than singly. It is held in public collections, including that of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
This example bears the raised mark “collezione noi — design studio D.A.” under its base. It is offered on its own; the Pillola is often found in series of several examples.
