Olivier Mourgue

Olivier Mourgue, born in 1939, designed the Djinn series in 1964-1965 for Airborne: a tubular steel structure, foam, a cover, and no joinery at all. The name refers to the djinns, spirits of Muslim tradition able to change shape.

Stanley Kubrick furnished the orbital station of 2001: A Space Odyssey with them, which lastingly fixed the series as the image of the seat of the future; a Djinn armchair is held in the collections of the Centre Pompidou. Galerie 90 brings together here the armchair and the two-seater sofa, fully reupholstered in Kvadrat cotton velvet.
