Each plate bears a line drawing of a room, heightened with flat areas of bright colour, and its title handwritten beneath the image. Three are available: Stanza selvaggia, Stanza sensuale and Stanza meditativa. The reverse bears Alessandro Mendini’s printed mark.
Alessandro Mendini (1931-2019), a figure of Studio Alchimia and later editor of the magazine Domus, never separated the design of objects from drawing itself. The De Gustibus collection, presented at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan in March 2015 and published by Design Memorabilia, shows him at this exercise: four imaginary rooms, four moods, drawn in line like vignettes.
The plates are sold separately. They can be drilled for hanging on a wall, a use for which the series was conceived as much as for the table.
